How Bold are You?

The contemporary moral climate does not favor a faith as tough and fibrous as that taught by our Lord and His apostles. The delicate, brittle saints being produced in our religious hothouses today are hardly to be compared with the committed, expendable believers who once gave their witness among men. And the fault lies with our leaders. They are too timid to tell the people all the truth. They are now asking men to give to God that which costs them nothing. Our churches these days are filled (or one-quarter filled) with a soft breed of Christian that must be fed on a diet of harmless fun to keep them interested. About theology they know little. Scarcely any of them have read even one of the great Christian classics, but most of them are familiar with religious fiction and spinetingling films. No wonder their moral and spiritual constitution is so frail. Such can only be called weak adherents of a faith they never really understood. “Lord, send the Holy Spirit to renew within us a dept

The Little Book that Says so Much By Mike Andrews When it comes to the small epistle of Ephesians, there is much to learn. We find here many of the doctrines that Paul is teaching the church of Ephesus. We find many practical and helpful ways to conduct our Christian life. There are many theological themes in this epistle which could be discussed, however, we will only cover the three topics of Redemption, Salvation, and Grace. Redemption: In this book, Paul gives us a great understanding of what it means to be redeemed. Eph 1:7 In whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace; God has shown His grace by giving us redemption by the blood of His Son. This redemption consists of forgiving and delivering us from our sins; so then Christ’s blood was the redemption price paid down for our salvation. This was according to the riches of His grace. As His grace is rich and abundant in kindness, so it was given in a gift to mankind in t

The Life of William Carey By Mike Andrews There are many people who have desires and burdens when it comes to doing the Lord’s will. Some people misread their calling, while others just ignore any of the Holy Spirit’s leading. Some face trials and tribulations and therefore think ‘this cannot be God’s will for me’. We so easily give up and follow other avenues to do what we believe to be the Father’s will (or our calling), because we can’t seem to believe that the trials and problems we face would come from a Holy and loving Father. However, the Lord says we will face trials and tribulations. James 1:2 tells us "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness". William Carey was that very kind of man. He had a servant heart. He was a man of God who was faced with a deep burden and desire to reach a lost nation for the Lord Jesus Christ. Carey never imagined that the road ahead would lead

What Does Mother's Day Mean to You?

My Mother is: 1. My comforter 2. My protector 3. My encourager 4. My ray of light when I came home from school or my job as a young adult. There is so much I can thank my mother for, and my guess is you can do the same. What I find it amazing is how we have a loving and heavenly Father who has all those attributes and more. For His children like you and me (Ps 127:3) behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, The fruit of the womb is a reward". (Ps 139:13-16) For You formed my inward parts; You knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are Your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from You, when I was being made in secret, skillfully woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in Your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them . Our Heavenly Father takes great care in His children, even before we a

Our day in Grand Falls, New Brunswick. Walking along the trails of the Saint John river on this chilly Saturday. What a Mighty and Awesome God we serve! Praise His wonderful name. "for the LORD is the great God, And the great King above all gods. In His hand are the deep places of the earth; The heights of the hills are His also. The sea is His, for He made it; and His hands formed the dry land. Oh come, let us worship and bow down; Let us kneel before the LORD our Maker, For He is our God..." (Psalm 95:3-7)

The Seven Commandments Of Illustrations April 23, 2008 By Mark Devers 1. Thou shalt not overuse them.It is definitely possible to have far too many sermon illustrations. The problem is that illustrations are like chocolate: good in small doses but overindulgence makes recipients feel sick and disorientated! Don’t feed the congregation too many! 2. Thou shalt not underuse them. While I can think of some preachers who pass out too much chocolate, there are others who never offer so much as a chocolate button! Such sermons feel heavy, abstract and dense. 3. Thou shalt not fail to illustrate the point. If your illustration doesn’t illustrate the point your making with a great degree of exactness don’t use it. One danger for preachers is to want to use some illustration simply because its ‘a good one.’ Yet the illustration may only relate tenuously to the point in question! 4. Thou shalt not make them overly long I recently heard of a closing illustration that was between 12 and 15 minutes lo
